Transferring money from aus to uk

I am moving to the uk from aus I have $250000 to take to the uk. Is there any way of not losing over half my money when changing it to pound sterling?

In answer to your question, unfortunately the AUD GBP exchange rate is now well established at above the two to one threshold. This means that each Aussie Dollar you sell will net you less than 50p. This situation is unlikely to improve for you any time soon given the market turmoil in China – if anything, the forecast is that this will get worse for Aussie-sellers.

For this reason, I would consider selling your AUD sooner rather than later.
